Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how the browser extension GIF Pauser (“the Extension”) handles information. The Extension’s only purpose is to let users click an animated GIF on a webpage, freeze it, and capture the current frame as a PNG image locally in the browser.
1. Information We Collect
The Extension does not collect personal information, browsing history, account data, or analytics. It does not upload your images to our servers.
It may temporarily process the following locally on your device:
- Whether capture mode is active
- The GIF image URL needed to fetch and freeze a frame (processed in the browser / extension process)
- A PNG data URL of the captured frame, kept only for download/restore during the session
2. How Information Is Used
- Draw the current GIF frame onto a canvas and replace the animated image with a still PNG
- Optionally download the captured PNG to your device when you choose
- Restore the original GIF when you choose
Data is never sold, shared with third parties, or used for advertising.
3. Storage and Retention
Capture-mode state may be stored with the browser’s session storage APIs on your device. Captured frame data stays in memory for the page session and is cleared when you leave the page, restore the GIF, or remove the Extension.
4. Permissions
- activeTab / scripting — inject the capture UI into the page you are using
- storage — remember whether capture mode is active for the session
- Host access — fetch GIF image bytes when the page’s canvas cannot read a cross-origin image, so the frame can still be captured locally
5. Third-Party Services
The Extension does not include analytics SDKs or advertising networks. Image fetching only retrieves the GIF URL already shown on the page, to process it locally.
